What to Expect

Book an Appointment

Your First Appointment

Your first appointment will typically involve a one hour consultation, an examination, and an assessment.

To begin with, your osteopath will ask you about any current complaints, your general health, and your medical history.

Then, your practitioner will carry out a complete osteopathic examination,  orthopaedic testing, and a functional movement assessment, before discussing their findings with you and formulating a personalised treatment plan. In some individual cases, treatment will not be advised, and an alternative treatment plan may be suggested (e.g. a referral for a scan at your local hospital).

Finally, your osteopath will explain the benefits and any possible setbacks involved, before proceeding with treatment.

All treatment plans include post-treatment exercises and long-term strength-building techniques, to return you to full physical health as soon as possible.

Your Follow-up Appointment

Most follow-up appointments last for around half an hour; however, you may require a longer session, depending on your diagnosis. Your practitioner will discuss this in detail with you. Your session will consist of treatment and follow-up advice about self-management.
